A Subversive Superhero
Innovator of Genre-Defying Cinema
Matthew Vaughn is one of Britain’s most successful and critically acclaimed independent filmmakers, whose production company MARV, specializes in genre-redefining films. He began his career by producing Lock, Stock and Two Smoking Barrels and Snatch, then debuted as a director with the critically acclaimed Layer Cake, starring Daniel Craig in 2004. He followed this by cowriting, directing, and producing Stardust, starring Robert De Niro and Michelle Pfeiffer.
From 2009 to 2014 Vaughn released Harry Brown, The Debt, the cult hit Kick-Ass starring Nicolas Cage, Chlöe Grace Moretz, and Aaron Taylor-Johnson, then cowrote and directed X-Men: First Class, a box office hit that he followed by cowriting X-Men: Days of Future Past.
Worldwide Acclaim
The year 2014 saw the release of global blockbuster Kingsman: The Secret Service, starring Colin Firth and Taron Egerton, with 2017’s highly anticipated follow-up Kingsman: The Golden Circle, also starring Halle Berry, Jeff Bridges, and Channing Tatum. The prequel, The King’s Man, starring Ralph Fiennes, was released worldwide by Disney in 2021. All three films were cowritten and directed by Vaughn and produced by MARV.
Award-Winning Excellence
Vaughn also produced Eddie the Eagle in 2016, and in 2019 MARV and Rocket Pictures released the BAFTA-nominated and Oscar®-winning Rocketman. In 2023 MARV released Tetris, produced by Vaughn and starring Taron Egerton, with Apple Original Films.
In February 2024 MARV released the action-comedy-romance Argylle, in theatres worldwide with Universal Pictures and Apple Original Films. Directed and produced by Vaughn and featuring an all-star cast including Bryce Dallas Howard, Henry Cavill, Sam Rockwell, Bryan Cranston, Catherine O’Hara, Dua Lipa and Ariana DeBose, with John Cena and Samuel L. Jackson.
